Connect Stripe

Connect a Stripe Express account from your Croissant dashboard to accept tips and get paid out to your bank. What onboarding asks for and why it is needed.

Updated

Croissant uses Stripe to take payments from supporters and pay the money out to you. Before your page can accept tips, you need to connect a Stripe account and finish Stripe's onboarding.

Why Stripe

Stripe is a payments company used by many online businesses. It handles card details, wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, fraud checks and payouts to your bank. Croissant never sees your bank details or your supporters' card numbers.

Croissant uses Stripe Connect with an Express account. That means Stripe creates a lightweight account for you, linked to Croissant, with its own simple dashboard for payouts.

How to connect

  1. Open your dashboard.
  2. Choose the option to connect Stripe.
  3. You are taken to Stripe's onboarding. Fill in the details Stripe asks for.
  4. When you finish, Stripe sends you back to Croissant.

Once Stripe confirms your account is ready, your page can take payments.

What Stripe asks for

The exact questions depend on your country, but usually include:

  • your name, date of birth and address
  • a phone number and email
  • the bank account where you want payouts
  • sometimes an ID document or extra details to verify who you are

Stripe needs this by law to prevent fraud and money laundering. The information goes to Stripe, not to Croissant.

If onboarding is not finished

If you leave onboarding halfway, your page will not be able to take payments yet. Go back to the dashboard and continue where you left off. Stripe may also ask for more information later, for example once you have received a certain amount. If that happens, follow the prompts so your payouts are not paused.

After you connect

You can see your balance and payouts in Stripe. For how money moves from a tip to your bank, read Get paid. For what is deducted along the way, read Fees.
