The short version
Both let fans send you a small thank-you payment. The difference is how much else comes with it.
Buy Me a Coffee is a full toolkit: tips, memberships, a shop and posts. It takes 5% for that.
Croissant does one thing: tips. It takes 1%. If tips are all you need, you keep more of each one.
Where Buy Me a Coffee is better
Recurring income. Members pay you every month. That's steadier than waiting for tips, and Croissant can't do it.
Selling things. Downloads, commissions and extras can live on the same page.
Staying in touch. You can post updates and keep some for members only, which gives people a reason to come back.
It's well known. Many supporters will have seen it before.
If you'll use any of that, the extra 4% buys you real features.
Where Croissant is better
The fee. 1% instead of 5%, with no monthly plan and no paid tier.
Less to set up. Sign in with Google, pick your link and your price, connect Stripe. That's it.
Less to keep up with. No tiers to design, no posting schedule, no stock to manage.
How to decide
Ask yourself one question: do you want people to pay you every month?
If yes, use Buy Me a Coffee or another membership tool. If you just want a link people can tip from, Croissant is the cheaper and simpler choice. Not sure? Tips vs memberships walks through it.
You can also run both. Plenty of creators keep a tip link next to a membership page. Start your Croissant page or see how the 1% fee works.
